#39 Youth Filmmakers Showcase (Under 18)-Made of + The Equalizer + Phantom + If I Ask Girl A + Motherlands

Made of- I created this interpretive film telling my story about how I will not let others confine me to a small portion of life. I strive to continue to break free and explore everything life has to offer. Through the use of dance, a huge part of my life, and the lyrics to the song, I used symbolism in the shots to show the themes of passion, independence, hard work, love of art, and overcoming obstacles.

The Equalizer-Documentary on the life of professional bodybuilder and professional wrestler Ric Drasin

Phantom- PHANTOM is about the lack of the ability to feel in society, due to the expectations that we create. The film follows a teenage boy's emotionless day routine and we see how forgiveness allows us to free ourselves from our own cages of conformity.

If I Ask- A man honors the request of his best friend, but at what cost?

#46 - Stopping Traffic + Arrested Again
Stopping Traffic - Today, with the instant reach of social media and the explosion in cyber-porn, a child sex slave can be purchased online and delivered to a customer more quickly than a pizza. Stopping Traffic investigates the international crisis of human sex trafficking, particularly of minors, from a deeply personal point of view.

The film is a call to action, intending to inspire the viewer to join in the movement to seek an end to human trafficking, helping to break the isolation of millions of voiceless victims. We are particularly reaching out to young people, hoping to enlist the next generation of activists.

Arrested (Again) - Activist Karen Topakian has been arrested dozens of times for using nonviolent civil disobedience to protest nuclear proliferation, human rights abuses, environmental issues, and war. What drives her to repeatedly put her body on the line?
In turn lighthearted and moving, Karen's story speaks to the need for Americans, now more than ever, to exercise this important First Amendment right.

Karen is the Chair of the Board of Directors of Greenpeace, Inc. She began protesting in New York City and her native Rhode Island as well as the greater New England area, and now lives in San Francisco, with her wife, Peg Stevenson.

#47a - No Roads In + Fix My Bail
Fix My Bail - Music video by The Black Sorrows

No Roads In -  Sound Engineer Adam Naugler was fascinated by a nearby abandoned homestead.  Hunkered against battering winter winds, adrift on summer wheat seas, the building was so forgotten the road in had long faded. Yet, year in and out, the building seemed, like a beacon, to call to him. A call to what?

The moment the stepped inside Naugler felt the answers to these question in the sound of his own voice. Amongst the cracked plaster, torn floorboards, windows bare to buzzing insects and raw prairie, Naugler heard acoustic perfection.

Digging into the buildings mournful past reinforced his gut feeling that somehow, the aging homestead, and the vibrating energy of voice striking against lonely walls were, inextricably linked. But how could he bring such a powerful, abstract feeling to life?  And then he heard the voice of Blake Reid and the path became absolutely clear.  From a storied line of Cremona Alberta farmers, Reid's music explores the intimate connection between  farming and the cultural values of simpler, communal past.  Reid's lyrics were a direct allegorical match to that stoic, weathered monument. And then there was the resonating timbre of Reid's voice.

The next step, for Naugler was simple; convince Reid to record inside the homestead. Turns out he was pushing at an open door. No Roads In covers five days as Reid, Naugler and band battle the elements to record an entire album, using acoustic instruments, with rudimentary analogue equipment. The experience in the old homestead proves, for each musician, a deep and unexpected catharsis.
